It’s not a secret that coconut oil offers amazing benefits to your dog. Coconut oil is deeply moisturising, anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal. It works magically not only for you, but for your dog, as well.
What are the health benefits of coconut oil for your dog?
The main ingredient that makes coconut oil so popular amongst health conscious dog owners is lauric acid. Lauric acid is antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral, helping your dog’s immune system stay strong. It can also be applied topically to help with wounds and skin problems such as itchy skin, eczema and others.
Some swear it can also be used as plaque-fighting toothpaste for dogs.
How much coconut oil you should give to your dog?
The general advice is to give one teaspoon for every 10-20 pounds/4.5-9 kg of body weight. You can give it every day or every other day. So, for example, a 13kg French Bulldog could happily consume one teaspoon of coconut oil every day.
If you’ve never offered coconut oil to your dog, firstly test with a tiny amount before giving the full daily portion. Most dogs love the taste and would eat it with no problems.
